Debating Middle Eastern affairs can often become emotional. Although there may be reasons for this, we would like to appeal for a thoughtful approach and mutual respect. Our vision aims at such a goal. We strive for:
• nurturing intellectual responsibility
• learning from, rather than teaching/pontificating, each other about human conditions
• countering intellectual colonialisation and condescension
• arriving at a positive and constructive image of each other without neglecting differences
• seeking greater mutual understanding and promotion of pluralism
• countering polarised debate, tribalism and ethnocentrism
• promoting diversity, theoretical approaches for complex issues and inviting critical comment
• treating with sensitivity and discernment that which from a traditional masculine perspective is considered trivial
• contributing to increasing the chances for peace and prosperity, thus avoiding dogmatic ideologies
• bearing in mind that the future is open, that there are no laws or predestining designs in history, which has implications for individuals’ responsibility
• thus, connecting like-minded individuals for sharing knowledge and information
